but...it's a Trendline. The ugly sister of the line-up. It has a non-descript engine, 3 door config only, and IIRC, soon to be deleted from the line-up.

I'd be getting the 9N. Or cough up more $$$s for the 77TSI

The 9N3 GTi does not need a slather of modifications to be a more enjoyable drive than then 6R Trendline - in stock form, it will massacre it on that front. 9N3 GTi owners on this forum like modding because it is easy, affordable and can make it better in many ways but it not an unpleasant, ill handling, slow car in stock form.
Agreed completely - I've had my GTI for 9 months and I still get excited about taking it for random drives, I've only just felt the need to start making tiny tweeks and they're mainly aesthetic to make the car more unique - I wouldn't care if I left the engine as it was!

    Gambit, he has driven both.

Kaanage, I don't see the point in getting the 1.8T compared to the super frugal new Polo unless you want the Power. If you want power, you should spend the $800 - $1700 to get it chipped (brings out the best in the engine).

The debate around if the suspension should be modified comes down to taste and driving conditions, but I still belive that the stock suspension was ok for the stock engine and poor for the chipped power.

And the 9N3 GTi doesn't need modifications to support the decision making process (the fact that it can greatly benefit from cost effective modifications is just a bonus for that sort of driver).

That said, there is no arguement that the $3180 price differential would support a bucketload of nice modifications. But the OP may have other worthwhile things that the savings could go towards.

I just did a back roads run (Cann river down, Omeo back) from Sydney to Melbourne and back in my 2006 Polo GTI. It was a blast Only mods are APR re-flash and the Cupra R control arm bushes. The bushes are the single best value mod you can do to a 2005-2009 Polo GTI.

Equipment wise the Polo GTI is about the same as a comfortpack 6R Polo.

Don't go Trendline. Go GTi old model, or a 1.2 77kw which is modible to a reasonable 100kw. You get latest style, safety, features and I'd imagine better resale.

I've been looking at Polo's now for 6 months and finally came to the decision to take the plunge and buy one. I've got a budget between $15,000 and $19,000.

I'm trying to decide between a 06 GTI with 55,000Km, in great condition for $15,500 or a Brand New Polo trendline - Manual with Comfort Pack for $18,680 drive away.

I've driven both, and like both. The GTI sure goes better but the trendline is brand new.

Any advise, feedback, suggestions and experiences would be really appreciated so I can make a decision in the next few days

    Thanks
I note the last post re the Skoda Fabia. I recently enquired here in Canberra and was offered one at $19,990 drive away.......
