    Windscreen warning

For those of you who don't have a free windscreen per year cover on your insurance policy please consider this:
    1. The Pole windscreen is designated as a "restricted" part by VW. That means only certain windscreen businesses can buy them in after producing the VIN number of the damaged vehicle and after market glass is not available. It's VW genuine part only.
    2. Cost of a standard (no rain sensor) screen fitted is $838 and price is the same wherever you go. Sensor screen was estimated by O'Briens to be an additional $1000.
    3. Part supply is short (I just got the last one in Australia)
    4. Extra premium on base insurance is about $49 PA (AAMI) to $89 PA (RACQ)

Unfortunately I chose not to take windscreen cover for the Polo as I "thought" a standard screen would be more reasonably priced. I am now having to claim on my comprehensive insurance and pay the $500 excess

Ouch!.. I guess that makes me very happy..

I just purchased my insurance policy today and it includes the 1 free windscreen per year as standard .. RAC WA for anyone interested. Very competitive quote and were very helpful on the phone. Highly recommend.

As he said above, $1000 extra over the non rain sensor type window...

I have windscreen cover with my NRMA comprehensive insurance ($55 pa) covers all glass including sunroof. Cheap insurance IMO especially the way the wankers repair roads down the NSW coast.

Hmmm so when you buy the car if you want a rain sensor windscreen instead of a normal one its $500 more and you also get an auto dimming mirror and automatic climate control yet when getting only a rain sensor windscreen its twice as much more :|

Just an update incase someone else gets a crack in their windscreen; do a search around and ask for quotes on the Volkswagen genuine part. I got a crack in mine recently and was amazed to find that the aftermarket parts were more expensive than the genuine part. I have the rain sensors, the genuine replacement windscreen was around $700 fitted; and it was basically next day service.
