Who's keeping their 77TSI out of warranty?

My warranty is over mid next year and was wondering if I should buy the extended warranty or just risk it. I had some teething issues with my manual 77TSI but it seems ok now besides an odd rattle that comes and goes and pretty mediocre AC. Is there any 77TSI owners out there that are doubtful about reliability or have had significant issues outside of warranty?

I got a quote of around $1500 for an extra two years warranty from VW.

me personally i wouldnt be to worried about it. then again you are always taking a gamble by not getting it.
for me id probably struggle to claim anything under warrenty because of the modifications. im presuming you wont have that problem?

Just traded ours in at 3.5 years old for a new Golf GTi, lots of problems with the Turbo waste gate.

I'm hoping to get 5 years out of mine. Engine wise it's been good. Only had a HT lead fail and then there is the annoying turbo waste gate rattle (or at least what I think it is).

Gearbox wise - now that I'm not to sure with. They are offering a 5 yr warrantee (assessed case by case) but if I decide to get my tune next year I'm sure all claims will be denied

Hey mate, can you give me any more info on the waste gate? did you get the service campaign where they installed a spacing shim somewhere around that area?

I would definitely keep mine outside of the warranty period. I plan to keep it for at least 5 years and I would think quite seriously about paying the $1500 for an extra 2 years of warranty.

$1500?? that in itself would suggest a lack of confidence in reliability from VW. Is that the usual going rate from other manufactures? I've never enquired about extended warranty's, but that seems rediculously expensive when you weigh up risk Vs likely hood. i.e. look it from a risk profile perspective and costing a risk (like in any business), that suggests likely hood is very high, or at least what breaks is very expensive...

Our MK5 GTI golf was about 1700 i think for the extra warranty (ended up selling car before needing it but that as the price). I think allianz also do a warranty that is somehow linked with VW which can be a bit cheaper... it could be that the VW one is underwritten by Allianz anyway, but i don't recall the specifics.

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)
