I think many of us would've as well, makes no sense really.

You guys can always do what several of the MKV and MKVI Golf boys have done.
Just got to a paint shop or wheel repair shop, and get them to mask off the face and paint the interior and "sides of the spokes" so it looks like the Detroit. The only difference is that the Detroits (at least on a Golf) have a machined front facia... though many people wouldn't notice the diff and people who have kerbed their "real" Detroits have wished it wasn't machined (since it's difficult to impossible to repair).
I'm pretty sure that the Detroits are actually styled after a few of the original MKV boys did this several years ago...
That's a brill idea Corey! Have you got any photos of some people who've tried that on their Denvers?
Yeah. Ozram posted a thread here. He mistakenly called them Detroits in his post, but what he meant to say is that he bought some genuine 17" Denvers (for a Golf) and had them repaired (removed scuffing) and painted (both the black, and the silver over the repairs).
You can then see pictures of them fitted to his 118TSI here

Yep... that's exactly what the paint shops / wheel repairers would do.
To recondition (repair scuffs) and respray has cost some members around $600 to 700 in the past. If you have brand new Denvers and just needed them sprayed, it may cost quite a bit less. But doing it yourself would obviously be far cheaper...
