Just been quoted for these wheels. I think they should go well with my black GTI.
Only issue now is getting someone to buy my stock Denvers :p

Just contacted Jax via their website.
18"x8"...they were charging $600 per corner balanced and fitted. That's for the wheels only.
As for the rubber, I don't think I will be able to use my current rubber on Stock wheels. Probably wont work (going from 17 to 18's).

Struggling to decide...
I have ordered 25/40mm H&R Springs from Orange Tuning.
Just now trying to decide on whether to get 18x8's or 17x8's.
18's might offer too choppy of a ride, but the 17's might not fill the guards nicely enough.
I will be changing the rubber either way I think.
Something like Goodyear F1 Assymetrics or Michelin Pilot Sport 3's.
Hmm decision decisions...

Was at Jax Haberfield today, they had a Granturismo 17x7.5 as much as the 18 looks good it does not suit the polo due to the vehicles size
the 17's especially in matte black finish looks deceivingly large against my car.
Before Xmas i will be getting the Oz Granturismo 17x8's
Haha. Stop changing my mind!! argghh..
I will be going down to Jax on Saturday and testing out what looks best.
I have a few mods on the way (springs, rear swaybar, APR tune etc)...will be interesting to see which setup will give me the best grip/ride

Not sure I agree with your view that 18s don't suit the polo. Yes it a larger wheel, but it's a minor misconception that the 18 inch might appear 'too large' under the guards compared to a 17, but in actual fact an 18 inch wheel with a 35 series tyre only fills out the guard by a further 5mm.
Silver wheels will obviously look larger due to the contrast between wheel and lower profile tyre, but as you guys are talking 'black on black', unless you are standing up close to the car you would barely notice the small difference between 17 and 18 because of the overall black nature of said wheel and tyre combination.
For what its worth, I'm running 18inch/35 series tyres and the ride isn't much different to stock...even with the H&R springs installed.
I would suggest getting the springs installed before you buy/try the wheels on the car, that way you can assess the guard clearance with both wheel sizes.
Have you driven your car yet on undulating surfaces? steep corners etc? you will find the tyre will be scrubbing off the guard, heck even a pot hole while taking one of said corners will make it worse.
How do i know? used to own an Nissan S15 so i learnt to never touch the standard height of a car after that :/ call it fear, but it cost big bucks to fix after problems occurred.
My last response was pertinent to the 'appearance' comparison between 17 & 18 under the guards, because your criteria for not wanting the 18s was because they didn't suit the car's size.
Tyres rubbing the guards under harsh cornering in varying road conditions is another discussion altogether. Everyone's vehicle, driving style and conditions are different and your S15 – just like my old R33 – is a significantly heavier car than the polo so I do understand your POV.
To answer your question, yes I have driven my car relatively hard on undulating corners, it was actually last weekend out the back of Warburton and the car handled well but I did get the odd rubbing on the right front but it was very minimal. Normally I'm a relatively conservative driver but it was time to test the new springs.
