Thread: Wheel and lowering advice :)

  1. #41

Gotta be number 3 for myself. Although i agree with both arguments, and I can see gavs point (it does kinda ruin my gti's handling characteristics) but as ive said before, I'm a sucker for a sturdy, smart looking wee car, nice wheels (not too huge) and lowered but not to the point of impractical.
A few tuning mods, remap, induction kit, and that's perfect for me

im just installing 25/40mm H&R lowered springs

when 'fastlane' got his installed, his mechanic advised him to replace his hub nuts at the same time

but having asked other polo 6r owners who have just installed springs, they have said they didnt do this

    so im a bit confused

Kam, I think Gav and my mechanic are aluding to how the installation of springs are done. I wish I paid more attention when he was explaining (too excited by lowered car), but he had to replace the hub nuts as he took them out to assist taking out the struts (IIRC).

All the best!!! Just ask if they are taking off the hub nuts, if they say yes and don't replace the strech bolts, then ask if they have put loctite on them. If they don't, nothing to worry about

to be honest i have no idea, he is just installing them !

ill call him up and confirm though, as obviously installing lowering springs on a vw polo is a bit different than normal cars

    Wheel and lowering advice :)

He must be popping the driveshafts out. Easiest but also most effort-involving method.

agreed! looks in my opinion and would handly like a bag of ****...hard cornering would have you driving on the rim!

So you can fit wider wheels, sit flush and go lower without scrubbing - if you had stretched tyres you wouldn't have to have your car so high.

Not everyone wants ridiculous amounts of lows NP. And on some cars with the wrong wheels, looks s**t. And it would seem the 6r folk are a little more sedate (if that is the right word) then you crazy 9n(3) and mk3 golf peeps. In aus at least. Seen a bagged 6r from the uk. Est | Three.Six.Five

The BILT Polo is well stanced - its only a matter of time before more 6R owners get into it as well.

Coming from the UK it's completely different over here - that bagged 6R is so hot, but that kind of stance is something you'd see daily in Europe - Australia is late to the table again.

Come to Melbourne for ILV and you'll see it's not just 9N3 and MK3 owners who are rolling low - but all VAG models, ranging from new Golf R's to 50 year old air cooled cars.

Getting rear springs that lower the 6r enough is the main reason theres not many more "low" 6r's. I've got coilovers wound right down and theres still a 30mm or so gap to the rear tyre. I've been trying to track down springs for months with no luck so customs look like the only way to go.

The aftermarket support for the 6r is absolute crap atm, I want parts for a gt30 build
