That's not what I meant. The retail price is 28-29k, the rest of your 33k is essentially made up of service fees & taxes. I was trying to show that these are throw away costs. The dealer charges a delivery fee for a series of services that the buyer of a second hand vehicle is not receiving (even on a new car the value is questionable). And, while you're not charging the next owner stamp duty, they'll have to stump it up when changing the rego over.

As I said, if the next owner purchases the car from you for 30k they will end up paying 31.5k "on the road". They could quite easily walk into a dealer and negotiate a new purchase for that. The only benefit they'd be getting is immediate delivery. Everything else would be negative relative to purchasing a new vehicle for the same price.

Sorry if I seem a bit forward with this, but I'm just trying to point out that what you paid for was not just the car and the second hand value is based on the retail price of the car. Not the on road cost. The fact that there are several second hand polo gtis on carsales.com which have been sitting there for months suggests that the prices are not in line with the market. Some of them have had several price adjustments, yet they're still unsold.

If you have enough time, then you may find someone to buy it at 29-30k. It might be worth a try. I'd suggest you be a little more realistic and in the process undercut the other sellers. You'll probably get a quicker sale without having to really bargain. If it weren't for the waiting lists the realistic second hand private sale price would be 24-25k. However, with the waiting list you're probably looking around the 27 mark.

If you can find anyone willing to pay more, sign 'em up quick because they're deciding based on emotion only. If they have time to think about the decision, they're likely to come to the conclusion that it's not good value as a long term proposition.

    ^^^ Wot he said.

I think 27k is spot on the money in this market (and 24/25k in a normal supply market).

By all means, list for 30, but be prepared to wait. Also, I get the impression that the delivery blow-out is going to start to ease, as the hype dies down and the fan bois (oh wait, that's us...) get their early fix a la the Mk 5 Golf Gti.

List it at $30,000 mate, if someone is doesn't want the long wait and is happy with only 9000kms on the clock, they will pay it.

I would take it off your hands for $24 k if it is 6 speed manual.
Ummm, polo GTI only comes with 7spd DSG.......

The supply issue is easing AND the standard Polo GTI comes standard with comfort and RCD510 (bluetooth as well???) for no extra cost.

My theory is that when it comes to selling a car, work out what you want for it, then add negotiating room, same as most other people out there. Depending on how long you have to sell it, there is generally somebody out there that wants your car, you just have to wait

I agree, list it at $29,999 (gets it in under the $30k bracket marketing mentality).

I have the Carsales Polo GTI DSG bookmarked and check it everyday. They seem to move realllly quick. The Dealer stock moves the quickest (some only last a day or two) but the private sales sometimes take a few weeks.
