cheers for that. I've decided for now to connect phone straight to MFD, bypassing the adapter and just setting it to shut screen off so I can't see it. Seems to be fine like that. I have though emailed VWG to ask about the iPhone 5 plate, they sell plates for previous model so can't hurt to ask.

Whats with the removable bluetooth screen thingie?

Just read the whole thread, can't believe this sh*tty BT touch thing is still being drilled into the dash on a new car. I've got an R32 w/ RCD510 & 9w7 BT, and have just ordered a 77TSI as a 2nd car (w/ RCD310).

I can't decide on whether to replace the touch unit with an iPhone cradle, or remove the touch unit & use an RCD510 to control the phone (in which case the ugly dock will just sit there). I've got a VAGCOM cable, hopefully it's the same connector as the golf.

    Just a few questions:

    1. Has anyone removed the stock cradle/arm/etc and fixed the hole in the dash (or replaced the panel)? If so, pics?

    2. Is the iPhone5 cradle available now? If so, I'll happily buy someone's iPhone4 cradle

    3. If you buy the VW iPhone cradle, does the phone still connect 'direct' to the BT unit in the car?

Unfortunately its not as easy as replacing a panal as its drilled into the dash and you would have to replace the whole dash top.

iPhone 5 dock still doesn't look like it's available, with on site showing "mid May" mind you, they had said late April, and November, December, Jan... lot's of delays.

The dock is solely a powered dock, with an antenna connector. The only connection to the car is through the BT connection.

    Hi All

First post on this great forum. I have read through all 25 pages of this topic, and a couple of others on the same topic , but have a question that hasn't quite been specifically answered (or I missed it)

    I have a 2012 Polo77TSi with the RCD310

I connect my phone to "VW Phone", have switched on BT on the RCD310 and can stream music (and it sound really good!.....esp. compared to when it was streaming via the touch adaptor for reasons I understand)

On the phone itself it says "VW Phone connected (no phone)"

My question is if i installed a RCD510 would I be able to make/ answer phone calls from the touchscreen of the RCD510 itself? (and see contacts, playlists etc?)

    thanks for any help.

Sadly with my RCD310 system I could never pair with "VW Phone" and have no idea why when others could! However, now I have an RCD510 with the touch adapter disabled, I no longer have this issue! You absolutely will be able to see contacts, missed calls, playlists etc on the RCD510 touch screen.

Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong, but the NZ-spec TSI has the RCD310. This allows you to answer calls hands-free, but you need to dial out from the phone handset itself. Bluetooth in the Polo is pretty basic and does not permit music streaming.

Even in my new Polo GTI, which has the RCD510, Bluetooth is still just the basic version and even though the stereo has a "Telephone" button on it, you can't stream music or even use the phone address book function. This lack of functionality annoyed me because I have the essentially identical stereo in my Skoda Octavia Scout (it's called a Bolero in a Skoda) and the Skoda has full Bluetooth functionality. Long story short, I managed to persuade my dealer, for a nominal fee, to upgrade the Bluetooth in my Polo GTI to the higher spec VW kit that fully integrates in to the RCD510 and allows all functions to work.
