20 days later - my iphone cradle arrived today. Unplug the Blurry bluetooth touchscreen module, plug in iphone cradle.. walla! iPhone is charging and bluetoothing to the 9w7!!

Nice. Still don't like the idea of the mount but at least having an iPhone option is better. And why does VW Australia not have this available?

...and HOW GOOD is it!?! Much better than the tacky bluetooth display IMO. After three weeks of testing I have found the sound quality is FAR greater than the Touch Adapter v2. Call quality is noticeably greater, and if you don't have Siri in your iPhone, either pressing and holding the home key for Voice Control works great.20 days later - my iphone cradle arrived today. Additionally, you can press and hold the Talk/i button on the cradle for the 9W7's very own voice control. It works best with a fake American accent, I find.

Before I have my fight with the dealer to get them to supply one of these iPhone adapters, can you confirm my understanding :
If I replace the touchscreen with one of these iPhone Handyadapters, then my phone will work with the 9w7 via bluetooth even if the iPhone is still in my pocket - not in the cradle? (Gee - that'd make it just like the cheap BT handsfree I bought 9 years ago! Nice work VW)
I gather from my tests and reading here that the 9w7 won't work with an iPhone unless there's something else enabling it (either a 510 front end, or in the case of my car with 310 front end, it needs something plugged into the stupid cradle on the dashboard - and the iPhone adapter fulfils that role).
So I either get the VCDS cable and follow the instructions at the top of this thread, or I get the adapter from Germany/ebay. (or replace the 310 with a 510 front end)
Since I have that bracket stuck on the dash, I figure it would make an ok spot to sit my phone (which can then serve as my gps too.)
For short trips I'd rather not HAVE to put my phone in the cradle just to get it to connect to the 9w7, hence my question above.
