I've gone backwards in time and am driving my 1960 VW beetle daily - it uses LESS oil and has been on the road consistently longer than my new car was! If something breaks its easily and cheaply fixed and I'm not told that the computer says everything is working!

I will not purchase a new Volkswagen again and I was a strong promoter of the brand. They way they treat their customers is terrible and the amount of faults my car had in such a short amount of time and kms travelled was unnacceptable. I should have taken them to court as I lost a lot of money over it as it was a car I meant to keep for years but I don't want that stress in my life - my new car was meant to be just a easy mode of transport! I bet you won't see any of the current new veedubs driving around as a daily driver in 50 years time. they just aren't made for that.
Just wondering...how many KM did you have before you sold it?

I've done 45k on my Polo TSI and its running great (except the gearbox that everyone has issues with). Only 2 rattles so far: fuel line rattle which i fixed myself in 5 mins and the turbo waste-gate rattle which after an apparent service campaign to fix it, has not and is driving me up the wall.

I guess I'm just been anal about anything else like the engine whistling when it does a high idle to warn up the cat converter or after a hard run,

A loud pop/clonk sound from the front McPherson strut when doing a sharp turn when going from forward momentum to backward (only does it once in a blue moon, and under very specific conditions)

I can hear the big ends clonk (clonk, clonk, clonk) after a hard run and I'm parked next to a wall.

And...the back air vents behind the spare tire flap above 60km/h and I can hear them when the radio is off

    Ok I'll stop

I sold it at roughly 30,000km - in that time it had many oil consumption tests (which it failed cause it couldn't even go 1000km without a oil refill), a lot of those kms were 'running in' either a rebuilt engine or a new engine and it was still chewing through oil but they wouldn't do anything about it because you had to do a certain number of kms. There were countless trips back the the dealer for oil top ups then a number of trips for the dsg shuddering. At that stage the oil consumption appeared to be fixed but I just couldn't put up with issues with the DSG as I wasn't even fond of an auto car in the first place.

Drove the A250 yesterday and it's definitely a beautiful car.

After getting out of the Polo GTI and into that, it felt more reserved and not so mental! I guess being a Mercedes that's probably a good thing. It didn't feel as quick as the Polo (which is it) but there is a whole lot more car to get yourself around.

The DCT seemed fine and the changes aren't as quick as the Polo but I'd much rather have a gearbox that was a tad slower, than a gearbox that needed fixing every 5,000kms!

I felt more enclosed in the Merc and it's very low. The bonnet seems huge but it is a bigger car than the Polo so that would just take some getting used to. With like 8 parking sensors and the reversing camera it would be easy to park. The technology on it is great and the Audio system with the COMAND is just fantastic!

I dare say that the new Golf GTI will be a more engaged drive, however, VW has a long long long way to go to ensure their quality issues and customer service problems are fixed before I consider another.....

HSV released the specs of their F series yesterday. I hate to say it but aside from the issue of fuel economy, if they get the exterior styling right (unlike the E series 2, Urgh!) then that's another option, hella more reliable and far cheaper to repair!

Hmm, as nice and striking as the VF is, I just couldnt give Holden money. Its bad enough we pay oodles of tax dollars to prop up the local Car industry, especially Holden. At least Holden OZ makes a profit in return, I've seen HSV cars in Dubai racing Lambos

In a manual...mmmm you can see your turbo boost, wheel torque, "CLUTCH TEMP"

The only cons I can see...an overly busy engine bay...and a very weird looking tablet screen on the car....lol!

That's one ugly looking car and the inside just looks cheap and plastic. I've been in a 172 cup, 182 cup, both better looking cars imho, although a bit dated now, but even in those I didn't like the dash (recaros were nice though, but I suppose not for everyday use with our pothole roads)
