The dual clutch in the Lancer Evo/Ralliart was alright too. Talk about a car that's been around though!

I was just looking at this.. You're right, it looks dated. Wonder if that could get you a good deal?

Have had contact with a source RE Renault EDC and let's just say that there is a lot of nervousness and apprehension around with this box, even though it's made by Getrag and not Borg Warner. Hopefully I can find out a bit more after the launch which I think is slated for 1st week December...

Yeah, not confident that reliability will be any better.

Interesting thought, but I would more likely go for a Golf GTI. But I really like the cost savings of the Polo, in terms of fuel economy and purchase price.

My concern about keeping the car out of warranty has less to do with oil consumption than clutches that keep wearing out every 18k kms... I can't get someone to estimate the cost of replacement, but I can't imagine it would be less than $2000-3000. (Oil is a piddling $80 per year, by comparison).

But it seems like the Polo GTI fits the bill best. Maybe the thing to do is trade in for a newer model... Lease, this time so I pay only for what I use (plus interest). Usually buying is the more economical solution, but not when the resale value takes such a big hit, and reliability plagues you...

Yeah by going with the Q3 you have a pretty good chance of it lasting. Both the 2L ea288 (or is it a ea88 engines have pretty good reliability just look at the golf r / sirocco / GTI and many others.

Also the dq500 wet clutch 7speed DSG hasn't had any faults to date If I recall - but then again it has only been in full operational service for the past year - so far so good though

Hope you enjoy it, it's a fantastic car!
