Yikes, basically a 309kw, AWD Polo? No thanks! If it existed, It’s cost close to $100k surely. If I had that kind of coin to drop on a car, I’d be wanting something bigger than an A1!

Just to let you know that no manufacturers make totally reliable cars - my newish Pug 208 GTI is throwing a engine overheat error. Faulty batch of temperature sensors apparently. And it has a rattle!! Makes me feel right at home

Apart from size is there much of a difference between the 6R and Mk7?

I'm looking to upgrade later in the year and tossing up between the two

Don't forget the Octavia RS either

Golf 7 GTI is a bit faster, more refined, and based on a newer platform.

Octavia RS is pretty much the same, but cheaper with a bigger boot and more advanced infotainment.

In a way they’re similar but in a way they’re chalk and cheese. The cabin looks familiar, just much nicer. I also think that the Golf feels like a car designed around you, rather than the Polo which felt a little dinky in comparison. The cabin of the Golf feels like a pseudo-luxury car! A verrry nice place to be.

The drive is very different. Obviously the Golf has a lot more power and a tonne more torque so it goes much harder. You can still chuck it around the corners like a Polo. The main thing is that there is a bit of turbo lag compared to the Polo. With the twincharged engine you never feel any lag but with the single turbo, there is a small lag. But once it kicks in, it kicks way harder than the Polo.It possibly feels a little less go-kart like compared to the Polo, and more like a proper car.

Compared to the Polo, the Golf's boot is massive. I don't lack for any space.

I do wish I had the Octavia’s 8” screen though, why oh why did VW go with the 6” one!!!

Personally i feel the octavia is more unique. In a way I picked the Polo GTI over the Mk6 Golf GTI because it was cheaper and offered the same performance and infotainment options (same bt, mdi, mfd, and you could you could upgrade it to the rns510). It was the thinking mans GTI, if you will.

The Octavia appeals to me much in the same way, its $4,500 cheaper than the Golf, standard Xenons, has better space and infotainment, and I like the rarity and cool options it has. All with the same drive train as the GTI. That said the GTI has a sportier ride, adjustable suspension and is more readily available at the moment.
