I'll probably be looking for something in 2 years or so. I'd look very closely at the Mk 6 Golf R especially if there's any low km variants around. Other than that, I think I might be sticking with something Euro, maybe an Opel Astra OPC. Unless the Japs release something before then that tickles my fancy, like a turbo 86 or the next model Mazda3 MPS.

Could be tempted to look at a hot wagon, like the new Octavia RS wagon.

TRD has already stated the Turbo 86 may be released at the Tokyo motorshow this year for possible delivery mid to late 2014

Oooh verrry nice! Although, recently I fear in a few years I may be at a point where a more practical sports car may be required :S

I'm with Hail on this one, A45 AMG subject to reasonable pricing and hopefully a better manual gearchange mode than what I've read is on the A250 Sport (a frickin stalk, really? Tell me I'm wrong. Hopefully there are paddles). And of course, confirmation that the MB dual clutch is not as issue-prone as the VW units (this forum has made me paranoid about DSGs).

Plan B, a mark 7 Golf R and I'll take it in manual thanks. I actually really like the idea of the M135i but I couldn't live with the fugliness and lack of space given the size.

Technically I shouldn't be commenting since my Polo is a mere TSI but I figured it's open to all opinions and I've been kicking this over in my head for months now...

I actually went and checked out an A250 yesterday. Bad move. I'm seriously in love. Such a gorgeous car in the flesh. I didn't take it for a spin or I might have ended up with a new car and a divorce all on the same day.

Here are some production pics of the A45 from the Geneva motor show from a couple of days back:

Looks like there are paddles and also a centre console gear shifter for the A45.

Lol the A45 is waaaay outta my league in terms of price. Even the A250 would be pushing it. Plus those Benz servicing costs...

Well wow this thread took off... Didn't realise.

My thoughts are some what swayed a lot by all these comments. A few say the Golf R Mk6 and a few say the A250. I'm surprised to think this but after owning my first near new VW (European car) I think I'd go back to a Japanese build. My GTi has gone in under warranty at least 5-7 times all within a year is that normal?

I'd never even look at a Renault I just know that would be a PITA from day one. Anyone see the recent Top Gear episode, 3 hot hatch's I'm surprised the Opel was in there looked nice?

Yeah VW AU should have this thread posted on it's front window of the service centre...lol

Damn the A45 is a sexy piece of machinery. I'd be tempted if I had that sort of coin to play with.
