I managed to wire them into the parkers but the ground i chose actually disconnects when headlights are switched to on. The end effect was great because they operate very similar to DRL's. ( switching off when headlights are on)
The brand is aerpro or sumfin, they are called side illumination LED strips, they arent overly bright and match the tone of real DRL's

I have Xenons with DRLs on my Polo. The DRLs don't turn off when you switch the main headlights on. I think they dim a little, but certainly don't turn off. The ones depicted in the photograph don't seem as bright as the OEM's

Mine too. To pass an ADR the DRL needs to illuminate to a light power of no less than 400 cd and no more than 800 cd, and have a white light to the equivalent of 2856 K, unless it is a non-replacable bulb (i.e LED) in which it needs separate approval.
jadencook, yours is one of the better retro-fit installs but I'm still not 100% convinced, around about 80% though for yours because you haven't just done what all the "fully sik" commodore and falcon owners do, you have shown some creativity
On another note, do you have to pull the headlight apart to install them? please dont tell me they're just stuck on...
Stage 2+ Intercooler Carbon Intake Downpipe Swaybar DV+ Remsa.
After the paint on the rear bumper started to flake off where the lower skirt looking bit joins the main bumper(the paint is just way to thin there along that line), and after quite a few expletives were said, i've decided to order the reiger rear bar. Have also just about finished my prototype for an intake on the 77tsi, all in the form of a 3d model at the moment, need to find a way of getting it made...
And i quite like the retrofit of the drls on jadens, very much the same opinion as what gavs has said.

Ok here we go, this will be quick because im on mobile.
First off you will need, or to find someone with splicing/soldering experiance.
Next pull out both your headlights as per the VW manual.
The wiring looms for the headlights will now be loose and easily accessible.
The switching power and ground i found are on termination points 6 and 10, these vary with which headlight side but are clearly marked on the plug of the loom in small writing near the wire at the top.
CAREFULLY cut the wire wrap (plastic) back to bare the inner wiring, wrap power to wire going to terminal 10 and ground to wire at terminal 6.
Dont solder yet, put the headlight back in and TEST with the wiring electrical taped for now.
The LEDs should come on with parkers, switching to headlights will power them off.
Test both sides thoroughly before soldering, i cant stress this enough since new wiring looms arent cheap!
-results!
PM if you want something better, i can always do a full on sticky appropriate post if theres demand.
The LEDs i used are Aerpro 20cm side illumination DTRL220's.
Or eBay side illuminarion LED strip for a 30cm version.
