Of course the local dealer where we got the genuine parts gave us the wrong filter... Even after quoting the engine number.
I have no idea what this means.

You need to quote the VIN

FWIW I have an EA888 gen1 1.8tsi and the oil volume is 4.5L inc filter. Maybe they added a litre extra to the sump because the later models like a drink?

Quoted the VIN and the engine model number still got the wrong part. What I was saying is after the new oil and the correct new filter fitted, the car drives much better. 1.4 engine drank engine oil allot as I had one, 1.8 engine did not or hasn't so far. I was there when filling the engine with the new oil, added 4.5L as per the service manual, only came up to half way mark on the dip stick.

What have you done with your Polo so far (and today)

As I said.. It took 5.5l of oil instead of 4.5l to reach the full mark on the dip stick... Errrr.... Now I am confused, I am saying as it happened ... Why is it confusing? Perhaps my grammar? I know I do have a tendency of not proof reading at times What have you done with your Polo so far (and today) Is it is what it is...

OK Harry, here's the problem, I have never had a car that took 1 litre more than its specified fill. Car manufacturers just don't make that kind of mistake, sure it's possible, but I've never seen it. Engine oil usually comes in 5 litre containers, so did you have to go out and buy another 0.5 litres?

The other issue is overfilling, firstly engine oil doesn't always run down from the filler to the sump very fast. So it's not unusual to keep on pouring oil into the cam cover and there is some delay while it runs down to the sump and shows on the dip stick. Secondly, I assume the car was parked on a flat surface while you were filling it. Not jacked up or on a slope?

Whatever the answers to the above, I'd strongly suggest you check the engine oil today, on a flat surface. Running an engine overfull with oil is not a good idea.

    Cheers

Got my 6C Polo GTi APR tuned down at Penninsula Autohaus. Ripper couple of guys, pleasure to talk to and gee the car is not bad at all! For the price the APR tune is now, it's definitely a worthwhile $1k spent. No lag at all and the torque increase is astounding! Will be keen to follow oem+ progress, but for the moment, APR tune goes really well
