A new switch is about $85 from Vw, iirc.

any idea how it is replaced i.e. does it require door trim removal?

You can get many replacements around if you look on eBay or Google. here's one I found with a quick search - It has chrome and only $49 excluding shipping

Chrome Rear View Mirror Switch (w/ Heat Function) - Polo 6R - Oriental Parts

Also removal of the switch is easy. All you have to do is remove the panel it sits in - that's it

Super easy. Remove grab handle trim, unplug, swap switches. 5min job.

Already had to do mine after I took it apart wrong the first time to plastidip the trims, pulled the switch in half instead of taking it out. Lost a tiny spring and had to get a new switch.
Bought the new switch and replaced it sitting out the front of the dealer.

turns out they are not proper three piece... well, they are but they are welded around the seam, not just silicon stuff... so will refurbish these a bit... hopefully have them on for VITS in late April... sell them on and find something else (which i may have already found if the guy is willing to sell)

I've had an eventful few days.

Yesterday I had VW install the springs (30mm front and back).

They wouldn't install my new 17 inch alloys as they weren't OEM. So me and a friend put them on ourselves.

Then this morning I was driving to work. Took off at some traffic lights and felt the car swerve a bit, and then felt a crunch and looked out of the left to see my rear wheel roll out onto the road ahead of me.

Wheel had completely come off. I got the car jacked up and put it back on with five new bolts. But am TERRIFIED about the other three, even though I've tightened them and they look sweet. . . .well. . . .as sweet as that other one came before it flew off and nearly killed me! Very lucky boy.
