Booked in for the DQ200 DSG mineral oil change recall for next Thursday, good to get it done before summer seeing as apparently hot temperatures are what cause problems

Actually on the topic of the most recent recall the mineral oil change recall only effects 2013 models. "Apparently" 2009-2011 models effected by the 35c1 campaign get the new oil as part of the campaign which is news to me becuase from everybody I have talked to about the recall they say its mech and TCU update. That's it...hmm sounds like more VW spin to me.

Not to mention what happenes to 2012 models - they are either perfect OR they just want this group of owners to suffer big time...

Theres no details comparing the flow to the stock paper filter in this test Brad - although i would be surprised to see if a stock paper filter could out flow something like a K&N etc.

Regarding the quality of filtering on the aftermarket filters - although some performed poorly and others much better, i really doubt either would be detrimental on a street driven vehicle (providing they are cleaned/maintained as necessary). On a vehicle that is driven on dirt roads or very congested cities then perhaps yes, but in most areas of suburban Australia, i doubt it.

    I totally disagree.

I've seen actual tests where for the same level of particulate filtering a paper filter of the same dimensions as aftermarket filters flowed better or equal. The aftermarkets gained airflow at the expense of particulate filtering.

Any test needs a baseline otherwise you don't know what the improvement is. Nowhere in that test does it tell you what the improvement is over a stock filter, just how they compare to their peers.

I have used foam (pipercross & finer filter) before, so it's not that I've never tried them.

Plenty of crap is ingested running around the suburbs.

My personal choice is to run OEM paper & change more often unless the cost of the filter is crazy money.

Either way, it's more info for people to make an informed choice

I would think the poorer performing the filter the less you would have to clean it... its not getting as dirty because the fine bits are going straight through.

The fine bits are going to go through a filter easier when it is brand new and 100% clean than when it is blocked with coarser dust.

From what i have read about stock OEM paper/fibre type filters, they flow quite well when new (clean) but once they start getting dirty, the flow decreases.
