Sorry man I don't actually know what that means

I just put a little plastic hoop in the alloy. . .hold it up to the wheel and put the five bolts in?

I'm just going to paint through the 'spokes' so i'm painting what you can see. Hopefully it should be easily doable! I'm not going to go wild with paint as I don't want drippage into the alloy and stuff. I just want this hideous rust to go away. Should be alright as the spokes are pretty gapy! (which makes my drum brakes look even worse!) P.S I know the photo is dark and rainy - but this is Ireland..

LOL...the crew at Jane Bob's are pretty good at this too. Will never return to that mob ever. I nearly stripped all the lug heads using a long extension bar trying get my gram lights off the car

also, just double check one bolt against the original vw as the shop may have stuffed up and given you the wrong length or seat type

Ok so I fitted my new H&R 25/40 springs...well actually Pontiff did most of the work - thanks so much bro. I mostly just watched

Anyway there are a few things I'm concerned about so I thought I would get peoples opinions. Now keep in mind that I am running standard shocks with sports springs.

First off I had 35/55 springs (only rear was installed) and they were stiff (virtually no body roll but harsh over bumps) as expected but too low for my liking so I decided to go slightly higher.

I got the 25/40 springs and installed the rear first. First impressions were good, still stiff but more compliant over big bumps with slightly increased body roll in the back. Over all they were the best choice between comfort, handling and looks.

From what I can tell the back has never bottomed out. It might be hitting the bump stop but I don't think the shock has reached the end of its travel.

So as I was happy with the rears I thought I would spend the effort to put in the fronts. I put the fronts on and as we lowered the car of the hoist I was slightly concerned about how low it was compared to stock. 25mm doesn't seem like much but it was substantially lower than I thought.

Took it out for a spin and the ride was pretty much stock, slightly stiffer and better turn in. I thought it was fine until I hit a mediumish bump and the suspention bottomed out. I thought it may have just been a really bad pot hole but going over speed humps in the local shopping centre does the same thing at 10km/h.

Is this normal for these springs? I know by going lower you already loose some travel but shouldn't the stiffness of the springs make up for it?

Also is it bad for these to be bottoming out and is there any risk of hitting the sump? I can live with the harshness so long as it's not doing damage, I do wonder though how people have lived with this...

Shame really because the car looks mint now!

Plasti dipped my wheels a bronze/copper colour, stoked with how it turned out. Colour changes depending on the light.

How many KM have you done on your car. Could be that my shocks are going / gone. Maybe I should rephrase my terminology. I'm calling it botoming out but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

All I know is I go over a speed bump fine but after the bump the front goes down - it starts to slow an then quickly stops with a thump and heads back up. I don't think the car is actually hitting the floor - just the shocks are out of travel.

Ive done 50 000km but had only had the springs on for about 5000km. I recommend getting them checked. Bridgestone fitted mine when i got new tyres put on. And I own a GTi, not sure what you have
