True, there are a lot of 'shoulds' and 'ifs' but hey, someone has to try it. Eventually I'll have paddles, working or not

It's all long term planning since I bought a house yesterday, but its coming
may have some helpful info on this issue tomorrow (the paddles)

Well my K&N filter arrived from the US today... Delivery was a little slow, but for $75 all up I can't complain!

I'm hoping it's not just a placebo effect, but after driving for about 30-40 mins this afternoon, it does feel more responsive down low. Some of the hesitation and lag on take-off is gone and it feels a little more "urgent".

Definitely don't regret spending the money

Thats the same seller I bought mine from. Not sure if the 1.4 in the GTI uses the same filter as the 1.2 or not...

To be honest? K&N, BMC etc, are noise filters. If you pulled one apart and put it next to an OEM paper filter, you would see a HUGE difference in the amount of filter surface area. If I gave you 100% sound proof earplugs and did swap overs of the 2 filters, you wouldn't even notice a difference. Besides, the ECU in the car learns what's going in and what's coming out and adjusts accordingly. The engine makes it's own fuel:air calcs so realistically, if indeed the filter is flowing more, the engine will increase fueling and that will actually make the car theoretically slower (basics of petrol combustion engines, lean vs rich air:fuel mixes etc).

Same your cash for an ECU tune, they work pretty good on stock air filters.....

Yep, as has been said over in the ECU thread where the filter question was also asked. Filters make "little" difference. When I said little, I mean, not enough for a dyno to measure, certainly not enough for the "seat of the pants" to measure. They can make some sound difference.

As gavs has said, saVe your cash for an ECU tune. If you feel the need to do more later, replace the entire intake when aftermarket intake systems are made available.
