picked up my new wheels today and have started the process of un-defecting the polo... yeah, if finally happened... but not because of too low, because too loud. but you get that when only half the exhaust is attached. also claim the wheels are to big (they noticed the scrub marks from when i had the fronts spaced) didnt even think it was because of too low, though im luck they didnt check. also tried to get me for the factory privacy tint in the rear that comes with the sports pack. they were pretty good about the whole thing though, explaining their reasons and what not. got till monday to sort it all, easy...

How funny they try to bust you for a legal tint (because you are legally allowed to have pitch black windows on the back side doors / hatch) but they don't notice how low the car is - like the back of it is literally scraping on the floor!!! haha, what di*ks.

Also they can't bust you for the wheels if they aren't sticking out the guards. The only thing they could get you on is if you haven't kept the same rolling diameter. Scrubbing is your problem, not Vicroads.

I guess the only thing he can get you for is the exhaust. He didn't bust you the day you posted the video without any exhaust components did he?

Just wondering because if he busted you with your muffler delete like most are running it might be bad news for us...

I believe it is illegal for wheels/tyres to foul any part of the vehicle. If you blow a tyre due to scrubbing on some part of the guard or suspension because something was outside legal specification, and cause an accident where you injure or end somebody's life... then I wish you well in a court of law.

Suggest you read & understand both the State & Federal regs regarding wheel width, track increases, spacers & interferance with suspension or body parts.

I'm not saying the regs are right or that MrDeathlads vehicle was unsafe but the wallopers have to work to something.

Oh yeah I agree with that fully. But saying the tyres are too big for the car is a really poor way of saying it. Chances are MrDeathLad is running 225/35 profile on the 18" which will keep them in spec like most other polos on 18s, it's probably the spacers (or lows) that's causing problems.

Still I think scrubbing would be a hard thing to fault. If I fully loaded / overloaded my stock car I'm sure I could get it to scrub. I guess been stock means it shouldn't and is probably not designed to but I guess it could happen.

Police aren't automotive engineers. They are just an organic go/no-go gauge. All they have to tell you is if it is good or bad. The people at the motor registry are the ones that need to do the explaining.

Keep in mind the wallopers have to remember hundreds of laws that extend beyond traffic regs.

Please keep in mind I'm in nsw not vic. Laws may be different.

They checked the wheel placard on the fuel filler lid, then said that the 215/35r18 would have a larger diameter than the 215/40r17 that the car came with so it did not comply. The also noticed the scrubbing that had occurred from a previous setup and assumed it was from the "too large" tyres. Not from being ridiculously low. The exhaust they questioned if it was modified and I said yes, they assumed it was a custom job with only one muffler and not the required two (so those with the mid res or rear delete, you are driving a defective vehicle) when actually the rear half of the exhaust was in place but not attached to the front half. So the same as in my vid but with stock components in place just not attached. Tint was retarded, I explained it was from factory but wanted it check out anyway. Tool. Still surprised I wasn't done for too low. And wheels are not allowed to foul any part if the car as it will lower the structural integrity of the wheel.

Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, but something keeps bothering me.. I dont consider any 6R on coils 'very' low, heck, I think mine is still a monstertruck and it's sad I'm restricted by the wheels needing to turn.

When the oilpan or subframe is on the ground, the car is low, any higher than that and it's just aerodynamic

yeah, but dave, here in aus a car can be no lower than 100mm off the ground and must retain i think its 2/3rds of original suspension travel. in NSW at least... mine was 90-95 at lowest and had bumpstops cut at the rear (though still less than 2/3rds)
