They are tricking to install. Well the first time at least. A-bit of work compared to other cars I have fitted them to.
No pics, but might be able to get tonight
HID's = BEST THING EVER.
Not only do they change the look of your car, esp @ night but your viewing distance is increased ten fold.
And if incorrectly fitted aka no auto levelers and front and rear sensors for the levelers, dazzle the crap out of oncomming traffic.
10,000K, that's going to be a very purple light when they wear in.....

I dont have auto levelers?
I can only adjust it via the control in the car, in-which work perfectly.
10,000K won't go purple.
They will be blue/purple, that's for sure.

If you hav a gti with the optional bi-Xenons then yes, you do. That being said, I only know of 1 gti with the Xenons and that's a press vehicle.
On a side note, 6500 is the max legal temp range on the HID globes you can use, these are the best for light penetration you can get with the closest falloff point from blue/white to purple. Purple light has little penetration so like Phillis blue vision halogen globes, they look bright, but don't penetrate.
10.000K is an illegal globe.

10,000K illegal. Ok.
They are an aggressive blue. They don't look purple to me.
They won't initially, but when the bulbs settle in, they will start to get a purple haze around the outside of the beam instead of a yellowie blue.
Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but they are illegal to be retro fitted, hence the $1600 option form the factory on the gti and they are quite a bit more complex than just a bulb and ballast. Hopefully we might have been able to guide you down a better path re Mr Plod if and when he spots you
On a side note, another reason I have recently found out regarding the auto levelers is that Xenon lights are actully quite UV intensive, in that they give off harmful UV lights. They use them for accelerated weathering simulations for UV stability in materials. Another reason why not to shine them into people's eyes with a reflector rather than projector lense!
