Shame about the diesel, they say the economy of the TSI is getting close to the TDI. 38% less fuel consumption is pretty big I reckon! It'd do 1200+ k's on a tank easy.

Agreed, I'd say at best Mid 700's with urban / suburban mixed driving and city bumper to bumper to be around the 450/500 mark.

Sorry to rain on your parade(s) but we've driven from our house in SE Victoria to Sydney, 919 km, with fuel to spare by the time we reached Sydney. And that's with frequent stops along the way for food/toilets etc.

1200 kms with the increased efficiency of the new three-cylinder's (which we won't be getting) should be feasible.

Ok, I misinterpreted your post. I'm sorry.
Now that I've gone back over and read everything applicable again, I can agree with you and say that it would be very difficult (read: impossible) to drive "1200 k+" with a TSI.
