VW recalls another 92 000 vehicles for camshaft failures

    Hi all,

    Here is the article:

VW recalls 92k models from 2015-2016 for camshaft failure

Any one know if the 2015/ 2016 Polo GTI 1.8 engine is affected? As they have not mentioned this model and it is also an EA888 engine.

There is a thread on this topic already in the General Discussion forum.

The recall is in the US only for US spec/built cars. Polo is not in the US so is not effected by the recall.

I know it is a US recall and the Polo GTI is manufactured in Pamplona, Spain, but where is Spain importing the engines from? They mention in the article that the problematic engines are from the Silao factory, which is in Mexico.

The only vehicle that may be affected here is the Jetta as it is built in Mexico. And of this model it is only the 155TSI Highline Sport that has the EA888 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine - the others are either diesel or 1.4 twin-charge (which is another story). There is currently some question over whether the GTI is/is not caught up in this recall so if it is then likely the 155TSI engine in the local Jetta would be in need of an updated camshaft. I suspect that there would not be many of these vehicles on the road in Oz as this is only a new model and there would only be a few of these on the road.

The engine plant in Mexico only supplies the North American factories so I think you're pretty safe.
