I did the pump on our Gti, got a Quinton Hazel replacement from Mick's Auto Parts in Ireland for $310
It's a pain in the arse job to do. Numerous pipes, belts, covers and even an engine mount needs to be removed.
You don't need a torque wrench, but you need a combination of:
Jack
Axle stands
Phillips screwdriver
Metric socket set
Torx set
Double inhex set
Vagcom cable to relearn the clutch on the pump pulley.
It's a job best done by someone else.
