Hi Folks,
I am having issues with my Polo 2010 77TSI. Occasionally, when accelerating from a stand still, the car dashboard lights and stereo turns off and the engine appears to turn off. This lasts for 1 second, no more than 2. This intermittent 'stalling' happens about once during a 40 minute drive. The car has 104k on the clock. Apart from this, the car is driving wonderfully, as it has throughout its life.
I took the Polo into VW, they said that they could not replicate the issue, and found 'juddering and clattering at 1st to 2nd gear', and suggested a clutch replacement for $2.7k. They charged $175 for this 'diagnosis', which offered me no further information than what I already knew. Their suggestion of replacing the clutch seems extremely presumptuous. They said that they could not offer me any further information that informed their recommendation due to their 'privacy policy ... and we own the information'.
Does anyone have any suggestions moving forward? How can I find out that I truly need a clutch replacement without a mechanic jump the gun and suggest a $2.5k+ repair?
Cheers.
Mine stalled like that a couple of times after going in for repairs and the battery terminal was loose. After tightening no more problems.
