I know, but that kind of defeats the point

I've just set Matt a love letter; I imparted the story of a family members DSG nightmare with their 7 speed.

The are up to their 5th mechantronics unit, 3rd set of clutch packs - first of the mk6 2009 Golf 118TSI.

It still drives like a total pig. It's a puzzling problem.

VWA might not want to initiate a recall or extend the warranty on the units, but it would be up to the ACCC as to whether one is mandated.

The fact is that a precedent has been established, and assuming the transmissions are the same, the precedent would require the coverage to be extended to Australia.

Maybe VWA is more worried about the implications where they have denied any problems and owners have had to pay for repairs themselves.

Go online and lodge a complaint using the following form:

    General complaints form

It is the only way that the ACCC will do anything.

Complaint submitted - I suggest everyone with DSG issues (or anything really) put one in. It takes about 5 mins to complete!

Is the 7-speed DSG in the Golf mk 7 (the 90 TSI and 103 TSI) the dry-clutch DQ200?

I think the point being missed is that recalls are not just made on safety grounds. Goods must be fit for their intended purpose and must be of merchantable quality.

It is not reasonable to have to spend large amounts of money to refurbish the vehicle so that it can be operated. The purchase price of the vehicle does not matter. It is not acceptable to have to repair something like a gearbox repeatedly at very low kilometres. Neither is it reasonable for a manufacturer or their representatives to brush complaints off by suggesting that such requirements are standard for that type of vehicle.
