Had a quick email exchange with my dealer guy. He said he "can't confirm at this stage" --> meaning he probably knows something already. But will let me know asap. Good thing is, my car hasn't been built yet. So fingers crossed.

Be careful. As changing your order will almost certainly result in an extended wait time, especially if your dealer has no build slots left to allocate. The revised MY12 Polo can not be ordered by dealers at this stage anyway. Orders already in the system that are due to be built after week 2 next year will automatically change specification.
That's the tough decision that we'll probably have to make. Just gotta weigh up the pros and cons.
The car is due sometime in Dec (possibly Jan) anyway. So waiting for another 2 months or so might not be so bad especially given the extra features. My missus definitely do not need the car immediately. Just not sure how trouble we would have to go through to change the order. I'm sure the dealer wouldn't be too thrilled about it.

Frozze
Your dealer should not really mind at all. Its like a bonus sale to them. I am sure they can find someone to buy the in demand car you would be cancelling. The real problem is just how long it will take for the new one to arrive, keep in mind since you placed your order another 20? or so people may have also placed Polo orders and you will be right at the back of the queue.
