Tyre pressure

Our new Polo recommends higher tyre pressure than I've ever seen before on a tyre placard. Actually close to what I'd put in anyway.

front 270kPa = 39 psi
rear 250-280kPa = 36-39 psi
spare 280 kPa = 39 psi
same pressure for tyres 185/60 R15 or 215/40 R17

It's the first time I've seen an official recommendation for lower pressure in the rear with a light load. Have been doing that for many years. So what gives?

Interestingly, the Continental tire pressure guide shows much lower pressure for Polo 6R, which should be the same as 6C
front 190-210kPa = 28-30 psi
rear 190-230kPa = 28-33 psi

higher for the GTI with same tyre size as above:
front 250-290kPa = 36-42psi
rear 270-310kPa = 39-45psi

That interests me too. I have the polo with the sports pack and the tyres were 36 psi at delivery.

I also have a new Polo (driver comfort pack) and the other day the low pressure warning went off so I was checking to see what pressures to put in the tyres and noticed the higher pressures coming from a Mk5 Golf with 205/65 R15 tyre pressures noted at 215kPa.
Was quite surprised at the difference!
