Thread: From TSI to GTI

    From TSI to GTI

    I am selling my manual MY11 Silver TSI Polo after only 16000km with a view to acquiring a Polo GTI.

    However, like some of you, I would have preferred a manual GTI.

    To help me with my decision, I was wondering how many of you bought a Polo GTI:

    A. With a preference for DSG and are still happy with the DSG;

    B. With a preference for a manual but are now happy you were "forced" to go with a DSG;

    C. With a preference for a manual and would change from DSG back to a manual GTI if you could click your fingers (and be refunded the cost difference, if need be); and

    D. With a preference for DSG but now wish you could have chosen a manual GTI.

    If that's not too much trouble to answer, a simple one letter ("A", "B", "C" or "D") reply will suffice, that would be a great help and of considerable interest to me.

    Thank you in anticipation.

    Just wondering why you changing up? (and getting into a big oily mess)

    If your happy with the car and just want some more power I highly recommend the DNA tune which ups the power from 77kw to 100kw (175nm to 220nm)

    Will take the car from 0-100 in about 7.7secs so still not GTI quick but for $700 its a good upgrade from the stock 8.9secs.

    If you have a manual box it will handle it fine! due to ongoing DSG problems you have to consider the fact that the tune will void your warrantee (technically) and that any problems you have with the DSG will probably not be covered.

    Stick with the TSI with the gearbox you like and get it tuned.

    A - I didn't bother with the TSI. GTI is awesome. DSG is good too at least so far. (1600km)

    Why? It has a DSG like gearbox as standard.

    VW DSG is designed by Borg Warner and manufactured by IAV GmBH.....only in the VW Polo, Golf (with 7 speed).

    Renault Clio RS gearbox is designed and manufactured by GETRAG (BMW 6 Series, BMW M 1,3,5 series, Jaguar XF, Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche 911 448 GT3, Audi S4, Audi A6, Porsche Cayman, Porsche Boxster).....need I say more?

    It has a dual clutch and it may be DRY...but it isn't a Borg Warner Failure, GAVs understands what a monumental failure Borg was with the DQ200 Design.

    C.

    I'd take a manual gearbox (which is technically possible) in a heartbeat without a single thought about keeping the dsg.

    Probably mostly C with a bit of B every now & then.
    For mine the DSG is at its worst in stop/start traffic.
