It has a dual clutch and it may be DRY...but it isn't a Borg Warner Failure, GAVs understands what a monumental failure Borg was with the DQ200 Design.

Sorry just like to point out the porche DSG (or PDK as they like to call them) are designed inhouse and then manufactured by ZF and not gatrag. ZF also having great gearboxes such as the 8sp ZF found in many new cars (BMW 1,3,4,5 series etc)

Personally I would put getrag slightly higher than the Borg Warner as far as reliability but only because they haven't sold as many cars with this gearbox yet (dry clutch variants).

There have been many problems with the fiestas featuring the dry clutch and also problems with the focus wet clutch variants - which shouldn't be the case.

Also most of the high performance cars have wet clutch variants again much less prone to failure like the dq250.

    ^from that wiki page

    6DCT470 — 6-speed dual clutch
Mitsubishi Lancer, Dodge Journey, Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger[6]

    6DCT250[7][8] — 6-speed dual clutch
Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Renault Megane, Renault Scenic

These are the only dual clutch gearboxes they make and Porsche and BMW are not in that list. Yes they have supplied torque converter gearboxes to many people like Porsche but I thought we were talking about dual clutch gearboxes here. Just saying

What I'm trying to insinuate is that between GETRAG or VW Group...I'd pick GETRAG...their bread and butter is gearboxes, mecha units and drivetrains...that's it. Where as VW become a little lost in the cloud...hell they want to develop a 10 speed DCT...like come on!

If your happy with the car and just want some more power I highly recommend the DNA tune which ups the power from 77kw to 100kw (175nm to 220nm)

Will take the car from 0-100 in about 7.7secs so still not GTI quick but for $700 its a good upgrade from the stock 8.9secs.

If you have a manual box it will handle it fine! due to ongoing DSG problems you have to consider the fact that the tune will void your warrantee (technically) and that any problems you have with the DSG will probably not be covered.

Tell me more about this tune! I have been looking everywhere for a tune for the 1.2L (Mines a golf though) with no luck...

Shoot an email to John at DNA Tuning. He is based in Melbourne, Victoria but he can send the flashing tool anywhere in Australia.

    john@dnatuning.com.au

When I last checked DNA tuning were the only ones who offer a tune for the 77TSI motor. I called APR a couple months back but they said the 1.2T motor tune has been out on hold indefinitely becuase the motor is not available in the US making it hard to work on.

If you search this forum for DNA Tuning you should find the thread. It goes into detail about boost pressures, ignition timing and a graph showing the power curve.

Max torque is 220nm from 2600-3800rpm (max 175nm at 1500rpm like stock) and 100kw from 4500-5500rpm.

Doesn't matter if it's a Golf or a Polo - it's the same engine and ECU.

I've got a DNA tune on my Golf R and can vouch for John@DNA.

Does that mean DNA "upgrade" boost power at higher revs at the expense of torque below 2600 and so diminishes the responsiveness of the stock engine at 1500 RPM?

He is based in Melbourne so you could shoot him an email and ask to organise a time to do it.

All the tunes are developed in the UK by tuning guru John Robins. Theres quite a few 77TSI owners on here (mostly Polo guys) who have the DNA tune too.
