Hi, I'm just after anyone's thoughts on an issue I'm having with my 77tsi polo. Lately after driving and then pulling up, after about a minute of engine idle the traction control light and tyre pressure light comes on. Will also go into limp mode sometimes after this. This now happens basically every time the care is left at idle after driving. Doesn't matter if it is in park or drive.
So I asked the dealer to check it out and also mentioned that the transmission slips/shudders at takeoff. The dealer came back and said the clutch packs require replacing (this will be the second set in less than 90 000 km.) They believe that the slipping is causing the ecu to become confused. Sounds like pure guesswork considering it only happens when the car is stationary. They also told me that one of the ignition leads is giving high impedence which i believe is more likely the cause of the warning lights after reading the threads on here.
Soooo... Because we have always had the car serviced by the dealer and we basically always complain of the transmission slipping but the dealers never did anyrhing about it apart from the clutch pack in 2013, the dealer put the repair to VW for warranty repair even though we are out of our 3yr warranty. (We also have additional dealer warranty that expires in January).
The good news is that they have come back after 2 weeks of me chasing them to say VW will cover.the cost of parts for the clutch pack and 30% of labour. They will also cover 30% of parts and labour for the ignition leads. I asked the dealer to give me an indication of out of pocket cost to me and he is say $600 or so for the clutches and 250 or 300 for the leads. Apparently the extended warranty won't cover ut because they class the clutch pack as a wear and tear item!
So, I'm thinking after all the clutch pack issue's with the DSG and we have documentation to show we have brought up the issue at services within the 3 yr warranty and 5yr warranty that VW ectended for the DSG it could be worth fighting for the clutches to be covered 100% parts and labour by VW. Anybody have any thougts???
As for 250 to 300 to change out the ignition leads. Sounds like BS to me. The leads are easily accessable and would be a 15 minute change out. Thinking of just buying replacements online for $88 and swapping them out myself. Is tjere a tool to make it easier to pull the leads off the plugs? Bit of a tight squeeze for the fingers and tjey are a bit tight.
Thanks for reading!
Ben.
Take it to a good repairer who has an engine analyser. This should tell them exactly whats going on.
Better to use good aftermarket repairer, rather than VW dealer, but check they have proper engine analyser first, as many dont.
I had similar issue, after wasting hours trying to fix myself, got it analysed and fault instantly found.
