Thoughts and advice needed please for a newbie!

Hi everyone I am a newbie to the site and I will be taking delivery of my first ever VW next week. I have bought a Polo TSi and I have planned on 3 things happening to the car within the first 2 weeks.

    1. New rims and tyres
    2. Lowered
    3. Performance mods (ecu tune)

    My questions are:

I am looking at some 18 x 8 rims and tyres, what type of lowering would have enough clearance for no scrubbing ect. I want 18's because I love the look of a bigger wheel on a small car.

What tuners can tune the car without effecting the warranty?

Located in Melbourne if anyone can help that would be awesome.

Trying really hard not to be negative here.

Say $1K for decent wheels + $1K for decent tyres + $1K for an engine tune + $500 for springs (installed), isn't that $'s half way to a GTi?

I haven't heard of a tune that's 100% guaranteed not to void warranty, removing and returning to OE for every service doesn't always work as there is still the possibility of tell tails in the logged data. Just the wheels, tyres and springs can give you warranty issues with a hardnosed dealer.

    Cheers

Also wheels and tyres over a certain diameter increase would be illegal Its 25mm in QLD not sure about VIC

I wanted to fit larger to correct speedo readout and would have required 45mm larger to fix it Couldnt do it.

Polo GTi's come with 17" and if I remember rightly there is a 17" option on the TSi's, if so it will be on the tyre and wheel chart/sticker and 18" shouldn't be an issue.

The legal limit is 25mm larger than the largest option on the cars tyre placard. Not what a different version of the same car may have.
A combination of larger rims and thinner rubber bands may come close but give a harder ride and a propensity to stuff rims in large potholes

Not that I would ever suggest it of course, but I have seen a Golf TSi with a Golf R tyre placard stuck over the top of the OE one to take advantage of the additional tyre width/diameter options.

One.......since they introduced the requirement I've seen probably a hundred or so with "upgraded" tyre/wheel placards.

To be honest I am not overly worried about the legal increase and the TSi does have an option for a 17" so I will be getting the 18s. Anyone recommend the best place for tuning in Melb?
