Thinking of selling MK6 GTI for 2010 Polo GTI. Thoughts?

    Hey guys,

I am thinking about selling my MK6 GTI to 'down grade?' to the new Polo GTI.

The main reason is that im a 22 year old guy and im thinking of traveling and maybe even changing jobs next year. I currently have a 'smallish' loan on the MK6 GTI and Im thinking I might be able to wipe it out by selling the GTI and getting the Polo.

    What are your thoughts?

    2010 Golf GTI:

    3 Door
    DSG
    Candy White
    Sunroof
    Adaptive Chassis Control
    Park Assist
    Reversing Camera
    18" Detroit Alloys

What I would get on the Polo GTI:

    3 door
    Candy White
    Xenons
    Comfort Package
    Audio Package
    ***maybe the alarm system***

What are peoples thoughts on what I would be able to get my MK6 For how much roughly the rumors are pointing to with how much the Polo GTI will cost?

One other thing as well is, what is depreciation like on Polo's compared to the Golf? Car Sales seems to abit of dogs breakfast and I have been told to take what Red Book says with a grain of salt?

I wouldn't do that if I were you...

Golf GTI 3 door beats half-arsed Polo GTI.

3 Door Golf GTI = very rare...will retain value more then the 5 door.

    You ask why?

Imagine 5 years from now...a new family wont buy a MK 6 Golf GTI 3 Door, some young Muhammad will love it to death and pay the coinage for it.

What a load of rubbish. Come back with accurate figures to back up your claims.
The point is this... VW finds it hard to sell the 3 door simply because it is NOT as popular as a 5 door. Therefore you will find it harder to resell a 3 door Golf down the track.

Sharkablue: The only way to reduce your outstanding debt is to sell the Golf and buy a USED car. That or start paying the debt off faster on the Golf and save some interest.

Secondly you have fallen into the same trap with the Polo GTi as you have with your Golf. You've added too many options (crikey , nearly 9K worth). If you are going to get the Polo to save money then get a base spec one.

Kinda similar position as the OP, still owed money on a loan and would need car finance for the new Polo. I ended up canceling my order and focusing on paying my debt off first.

Justification: I'll appreciate it more if I wait and save for it. Plus debt free cars go faster

Agree w pologti18t: there are a stack more 5dr gti's for a very good reason. They appeal to a larger group of people.

Even though you may own a less common 3dr the fact is when you sell a 5dr you will have a much larger audience looking to buy.

Option your car/s as much as you want- just don't expect to get 10c in the $ for your outlay when you sell down the track. A fully optioned gti (at $10k+) will only attract a SMALL premium over a stock gti.

When I have bought used cars (including my current GT) my top priority has always been low kms.

huh? Im getting confused with the replies.

All I was wanting to see is what peoples thoughts were on what I would get for the GTI?

And what people think the Polo GTI with those options will come up to?

    I am guessing:

    2K for Xenons
    $1200 for Compfort
    $900 for Audio Package

Its like 4K of options which will bring it to about 32 - 33K with my estimates?

I suspect you'll get hosed on depreciation etc., which would probably make sticking with your GTI a better option financially once you factor in paying all those additional fees and taxes on a different car.
