Thinking of selling MK6 GTI for 2010 Polo GTI. Thoughts?

common fact accessories dont add to the value in 2nd hand trade in.. so if you are going to do it I would suggest you find someone with 17" Denvers and take your 18"s off. Then when the Polo comes along, give the brand spankers to you new best friend and put the 18's on the Polo....

The assumption is that the Polo GTI is also borrowing from the Mk5 GTI parts bin.

ok, i have no idea how many kms your GTI has done so it's hard to say. whatever the local market dictates for a similar car (ie: kms 3dr and DSG) then bang on an extra 1 or 2k for your options and that's about right.

also your location is listed as "Australia" and as most people know state by state the price of cars can vary considerably.

a friend recently sold his CV8Z Monaro to a guy from Hobart (he is in Sydney also). Buyer flew up and collected w his missus then enjoyed his new toy all the way back south to ferry and across to tas. people do that all the time.... though i think i couldn't be bothered!!!!

as for polo gti pricing.. no idea.

if i was you? stick with the Golf and focus on paying it off quickly to save on interest. (hopefully your loan allows early repayment without exit penalties)

Sound advice.

Or you could trade it in for a new $12,990 driveaway Hyundai Getz with 5 years warranty and the difference you could put towards loans repayment and your anticipated travels. After all, that seems to be your new priority in life. And the bonus is it would really make you appreciate a bit of Euro class.

I'd be surprised if you pocketed more than even a couple thousand if you did this. Probably not a great idea...

You've already copped a depreciation hammering when you drove out of the dealership with the Golf, no point doing it a 2nd time with the Polo. A better strategy would be to decide to keep the Golf for another 5-10 years.

Get a 2nd job & pay down your loan or save for whatever your other goals are. If you don't want a 2nd job then do a budget & stick to it.

Also, maybe plan out what your goals are over the next few years (travel, education, bonging) so that you can prioritise other major/significant purchases (ie: if you knew you wanted to travel before you bought the Golf, then you probably would have bought a cheaper car).

Another small piece of advice: Never borrow money for a depreciating asset unless you can claim a tax deduction on it.

Please re think your idea i have been in your place years ago and it ends up costing more in the end.I would put all my effort into paying off your golf and then think about changing cars after you do a long test drive of the polo.I to believe debt free cars go faster.Do not trade in your car just sell it online otherwise you loose too mutch capital.My polo i lost about $3000 a year over 3 years i owned it.It was one of the best cars for resale i have owned.If i had sold in 1st 6 months i would have lost too mutch .3 years is as short as i would keep my next polo for.

I'm a motor mechanic / engineering paraprofessional thingy. Just speaking from personal experience (thousands wasted on "improving" cars) and observing others (taking out 5 year loans then deciding they want to go to Europe for a year & trying to sell car & pay out loan).

Cars are fun but sometimes you have to have a think about where the money is going.
