Tail lights doing crazy things

Today we went to pick up my sons new car a 2014 Tsi but we ended up not collecting it as there was something wierd going on with the tail lights.
It was like everything was switched around, press the brake and the indicators flashed etc.
As they reversed the vehicle out I noticed it. The dealer is going to have his workshop look at it but I was wondering if anybody who knows these vehicles has an idea what could cause this.

Did the indicators flash like hazard lights, or did they just turn on? When this happened, were the brake lights also on?
What happened when they used the indicators?
Did the reverse light come on?

Can't remember exactly it was all a bit random. Indicators came on as reverse lights.
