    Stone damage to condensor

Only 3000 km done so far and a/c failed the other day.

Dealer has suggested a stone through the condensor so not a warranty job.

Quoted $350 for a new condensor and 8 hour labour to do the work.

Surely it cant that long to get at the condensor!

Anyone have any experience with the same.

Also to reduce the chance of this happening again, is there a mesh inner guard that can be placed behind the grille to protect the consdensor and radiator.

    Thanks

8 hours does sound over the top

Supercheap sell grill mesh which will prevent this problem in the future

8hrs does sound like they're preparing for the absolute worst case scenario.

The bumper and reo have to come off to get at it. Plus time taken to evacuate, vacuum test, and recharge the system. Maybe 4 hours tops.

Yes been there are done that. Think I paid $400 for a new condenser and I got the price down from around $1200 to $750 for the full job because they wasted my time twice so I just complained. From memory it was a full day job or near enough.

Worthy of a claim on insurance if you have a cheap excess and guaranteed no claim bonus for life???

I expect they'll have it all day. But presumably not constantly working on it for the full day. Will get a second opinion from auto a/con mechanic and chat with insurance.

I've had my 65 plate GTI only 3mnths and it's been back...3 times. Twice the a/c has failed along with the start/stop system, thing they replaced and updated the ecu amongst other things. Third time the airbag light came on randomly. All repaired under warranty.

    Ahhh cool air again
Such a small hole. SAAS mesh in place. $800, not the dealer.
