    Stage 2 Dyno Chart

Guy, not sure if you saw the thread a few weeks back that a member from South Africa started on here but the gist was that his stock GTI was putting out ~240nm of torque when run on a dyno, yet his uncorrected power figures were about on par with a 30% drivetrain loss. Is 30% still an accurate figure to work off based on your knowledge of the different dyno's around? Is the dsg drivetrain that efficient, or could the motor be putting out more torque from the factory than specified?

Gav, I'm not 100% sure - we are lucky to have a dynapack which is easy to use & repeat and elimates a lot of variables. On ours it average 10% to 15% on a FWD car.

They all measure torque differently, and it really depends on how you want the data displayed. We think ours is pretty spot on with what the manufacturers claim. Really only compare before & after to see how it compares (here is Steve's 118 TSI 7 speed DSG which should be pretty similar).

This shows (on the stock run) about 10% less than factory rated (crank) torque and about 10% less on the factory rated power

Geez, 10% drivetrain loss is pretty efficient so his figures could have been plausible showing 240Nm at the hub.... Which would mean the car left the factory with more than the supposed maximum 250Nm that the DQ200 can handle....

Dynapack limits the drivetrain loss pretty well - no strapping down, no double tyre deflection on a couple of rollers....

do you know of any dynapacks in WA? I'd love to get an accurate reading

wish i'd known about the ABS fuse... would have made life much easier...

Yep, that was me. As stated before. It does appear to be very optimistic stock reading at the wheels. But there are quite a few with similar readings in South Africa, in different parts of the country. SA Car magazine themselves did a test to prove how the power at the wheels match that of a Clio RS, meaning the DSG is miles ahead of the box on the Clio regarding drivetrain loss. That coupled with VW possibly underquoting power.

Either way, VW updated my DSG and ECU in the week. something to do with improved gear changes and such.

    Here my graph btw

Just out of curiosity Guy, what would you expect an APR stage 1 GTI (no other mods, yet haha) to make at the wheels? I know the website states 149kw but is this at the hub or wheels?

It depends, take it to twenty different dyno's & you will get twenty different figures.

You should always look at before and after delta's (difference) & the shape of the power curve of stock vs modified. Always reference it to intake temps (after intercooler) as this has a huge bearing on the outputs.

Yes and please accept my apology with me being such a sceptic because 10-15% drivetrain loss is very efficient.

Could you please do me a favour and see if you could please ask other 6R GTI owners that you mentioned to share their dyno graphs also and pass them onto me? Believe me when I say that is not for my personal use, it will hopefully be for the benefit of us all...
