Spark Plugs?

If all 4 look the same, i wouldn't be concerned.

We normally check them & replace them when you get slight electrode erosion.

Should be treated like oil changes - in a performance car, it's nice to check & replace sooner than factory intervals.

I have my car booked in next week to get the plugs all replaced. I've been getting misfires, latest one this afternoon and two warnings in the past two weeks that the car needed to be taken to the workshop. I downloaded the fault data and got a P0301. I'm not sure but I'm hoping the better iridium plugs do the trick (42'000kms).

The OEM plugs for all VW's are all NGK Laser Iridium.

My stock plugs were Bosch (2011 Golf R) just as a FYI. When you said "all VW's" not sure if you meant all 6R Polo's or actually "all VW's".

I use my fingers on mine too, but not sure if this will work on the Polo's as they are a different design. Even one of those interior trim tools would work.

The OEM plugs for all VW's are all NGK Laser Iridium. These are spark plugs with a iridium tip which is lasered onto the base and a platinum plate welded onto the arm. They are made this way to give about 60-90k km out of the plugs.

In comparison the iridium IX are offered as a high performance alternative becuase they create a more powerful, hotter spark. They do this by reducing the quenching effect which is where the spark length varies which means to could misfire or start the flame front late.

The IX plugs do this by having a longer and much thiner piece of iridium on the base (OEM is .9mm and the IX is .5mm ~) and having a triangle pointed arm with a platinum plate so that the spark is allways directed towards the centre of the arm, not the sides.

Technically speaking there is no reason why it shouldn't work...

Fully aware of the construction of iridium's but didn't know they where standard on the polo. Mine started to burn more oil then before so I'll be pulling mine out shortly to see what state there in.
