Thread: sound actuator Polo GTI

    Re: sound actuator Polo GTI

You are correct. If your car is functioning as intended but you don't like the noise the actuator makes, go ahead and disconnect it.

Gavs was referring to a fault a few GTI's seem to have where the actuator causes a rattling noise in the cabin as well. If you were experiencing this, obviously it would be worthwhile getting it fixed under warranty and not just sweeping the problem under the rug.

It really depends on the 'drone' you are experiencing. My GTi was making rattle noises under hard acceleration and a drone when holding at a certain rev for long period.

I took the car into VW and they found that there were cables moving around against the firewall which they fastened, and also that there was no padding around the speaker.

After this service, I have no complaints and enjoy the noise the sound actuator creates.

    Thanks for your help Gents

I'll disconnect the actuator and then delete the mid muffler to see if that improves the cabin sound

What makes you think deleting the muffler will improve cabin sound?

I thought most of you blokes deleted the mid muffler for a louder exhaust note?

    What am I missing here?

Depends what you mean by "improved cabin sound"

I wouldn't say removing the middle muffler made the exhaust a lot louder, but it gives it more bass.

    sound actuator Polo GTI

No. The problem is that the resi delete doesn't really yield that much noise unless you really have the taps opened up. It's not so much an increase in bass note, but without the sound actuator going it doesn't sound as good, it's quite tinny.

I only took mine out as a temporary measure to get the dsg ignition cut noise, for a good exhaust note you need to go aftermarket.

Cool thanks Gavs. I actually don't mind the noise from the actuator, it just has a drone sound to it when gearing down and holding revs. Otherwise it's ok. At least it's not rattling.

I will go for the resi delete soon so it's a little louder on the outside. Ill see how it sounds with both actuator in and out
