    Snow Chains 6R GTI

Am driving down to the snow this weekend and need some info about snow chains...

Had a quick search for snow chains and only found 1 decently useful thread:
Snow chain - 2011 VW Polo GTI - Need Help :)

I was planning on renting chains from any random place on the way to perisher which rents out gear/chains, but the thread linked mentions that normal chains wont fit around the stock 17" denvers on the polo GTI, is this true?

I'd prefer not to by my own, so any advice on any specific rental places which can provide chains which fit on the 17" stock denver wheels is much appreciated. My car is all stock (not lowered) if that helps.

Otherwise, anyone willing to rent out their own to me for a weekend?

    Cheers

Sorry to inform you buddy but no chains will fit your GTI - Just as they don't fit any Polo with the sports pack.

The offset of the 17" wheels means there is only about 7mm of clearance between the strut and the rim and a chain can't spin safely through that gap, if it could even get through the gap. This issue annoys me off as well as I want to go up to the snow in the Polo. A set of steelies is the only real practical option. Other than that it's either spacers or aftermarket rims with a bigger offset

15" alloy rims can be had quite cheaply for 6Rs and they will fit over the stock GTi brakes
