Mine doesn't do that. Take it to the dealer to look at, a bolt of some sort could be loose.
Hi all,
Picked up my brand new Polo GTI last weekend and it's been fantastic so far. There was just one little thing which is bugging me (I know it's probably nothing) but was wondering if any other new owners had experienced it. When I'm driving at walking pace, in stop start traffic, and put the brakes on, there's sometimes a slight knocking sound which comes from the front of the car.
Anyone have any ideas on what this might be and whether it's worth worrying about?
Thanks,
Jeremy.

could be the pads moving, but any knocking sounds on a new car means a trip to the dealer... let them tell you what it is.

So I had the car booked in yesterday at the dealers to have a few things looked at one being a similar issue coming from the front.
Head mechanic checked it over and came up with nothing, that being said it only occurs once when going in one direction and then you need to forward or reverse for it to happen again.
This is because there is a small amount of play (that is required) with the calipers and that on the next break change it may not occur again. Was given a clean bill of health with no problems.

I only just saw this thread now. Do you have any updates on the problem?I have had the same problem in my MY15 Polo for months now, only makes a noise in reverse.I only just got around to taking it in last week to have it "diagnosed". They heard the sound. They came back to me and told me it was a front suspension mounting bolt that had to be retorqued. Unfortunately it hasn't fixed it and still makes the sound. I have it booked in for its 15, 000km service in 2 weeks or so and will harass them about it again then.... Surely other people have this problem out there??? Help!!
I took my car in to vw for them to take a look at the noise and couple of other issues. Took it for a short drive with the foreman and could recreate the sound for him to hear.
Left the car with them for a day and they couldn't find any problems. They tightened everything up but the sound does occasionally still happen when going from reverse into 1st gear (although it is a lot less frequent than when i first got the car).
Mention it to them again at your next service and hopefully it gets fixed or they give you an explanation.
This is because of the floating calipers it will do it if you go from Forward to reverse you will get the brakes making a little knocking noise but apparently this is ok.
