Should I buy a Polo GTI

I love my Polo GTI, bought it June 2012, done 19k km's and have had no issues or recalls.

I've got the APR tune too.

It does drink a bit of oil but nothing to go to the dealership over.

Overall I'm not confident having seen all the issues everyone else is having.

Save up and get the MK7 Golf GTI IMO. Regret it everyday.

No matter what you buy, you will find that some people aren't happy with the brand that you just drive.
Bear in mind that majority of Polo GTI owners who are in the forum, are here because they were searching on line when they had a problem (except the long term enthusiasts). So don't look at only their recommendation.
It's a human nature to complain and as everyone has a different degree of tolerance and perfection, some complain more than others. The age (maturity) has a bit to do with it as well. You will find out that most of those that are happy with their cars are well over 40 years of age. So are the younger people driving harder or less experienced in judging how the car should perform and so on? Do they expect too much from their car? Did they drive the low cost (or a secondhand) Korean or Japanese car before and now when the bought a new Polo they expect it to be perfect and without any fault otherwise they get disappointed?

Well.... I leave up to you to decide. But, I had no problem to give an a formal approval to buy a new Polo when my friend of more than 20 years asked what they're like. Why? Because I know he is a realistic man and a couple years older than me.

To the OP, you should ask the drivers at the car parks, how they're happy with their Polo, not in the car forum. I can find enough people who don't like (bag) even Honda Jazz, if I wanted.

I keep on hearing this about how good the ST is and I believe it.
However for me that will be using the car mainly for commuting I just can't deal with that horrible cabin or get past the hairdresser/boy racer styling.

Well I think this sums up your decision, can I ask Gavs / Transporter to review this thread for possible lock / removal? It seems to have served its purpose.

You clearly seem set upon buying a Polo GTi, many people have given you their first hand experience, perspective, opinion and a mechanic who's been working on VW's for over 30+ years has given you this "positive" opinion. Now its ultimately up to you which vehicle you buy.

It's clearly served its main purpose, the only thing to come of this thread now would be arguing between purists and those who are open to other vehicles but wish to push their claims into others throats (like I did with the Focus ST, not afraid to admit it).

I'm sure if a new member wishes to ask the same question again, a fresh thread would serve that person better as they may have a different form of criteria.
