I know its not most peoples cup of tea, but I'd say hold out for the facelifted Polo. Its hard to say how much new kit/engines it'll have since the brand new Polo is only 2-3years away but the rumours suggest a front more like the Golf 7 (ie the 'u' headlights if you go xenon, maybe the radar emergency braking) and Golf 7 derived interior (new GTI wheel, infotainment etc.) plus the GTI may get the 1.8t. Mind you it'll probably be 6 months before it's actually here on our shores and it won't be revealed until Geneva in march I think.

MY12 Skoda Octavia RS 147 Black Combi - Sold
I also call poppycock on this, the 6R was the first of the facelift to the VW brand which is now shared between the Jetta, Golf 7.
The tiguan rear lights design is derived from the VW polo rear lights (brake lights), even the TSI / TDI Golf 7 rear brake light configuration
More than likely the VW will not be getting a facelift but in fact will be joining the MQB platform with a new chassis design to suit a new gearbox / engine / power unit.

Ah Transporter you're hilarious. You complain about people bagging VAG cars but you don't mind bagging the top selling car in the world at the moment. Presumably everyone who bought a Focus did so because they are crap. To the OP, how about a Fiesta ST? The ride is firm and the cabin average but it gets rave reviews - generally rated the best small hot hatch and a hoot to drive - and very inexpensive (note Transporter, not cheap)
A good suggestion but I just cant get passed the horrible interior and not to keen on the outside either.
To be fair I really like the Polo and its more grown up style.
Still if anyone can tell me what they think is a fair price for a new old stock MY13 polo GTI I would be greatly appreciated.
If I was in that market I'd buy a Fiesta ST. DON'T buy a Polo GTI. Seriously, they are far too unreliable. We have one, it's a pile of junk and we hate it. There is always something wrong with it.
The gearbox is rubbish (you'll need new clutches from the 30K mark onwards), the engines burn oil (173 pages can't be wrong) and the engines like to be replaced.

I agree with the Fiesta ST being the real choice, it is the latest model which will help it retain value in the future.
It really is the current hero car in the magazines that the Polo and Clio were a few years ago.
If you have the 30k budget go for the newer Fiesta, I love and hate my Gti, but it is just too highly tuned technology wise that it has niggling issues and doubt. I would think the simpler fiesta will be stronger. That is if you are spending that money.
Otherwise if you want to save some bucks and do want a cool car though it has the same risk as the Polo, find a Fabia vrs.
I would aim for just under 30k for a my13 gti, getting a deal for that with a high end trade in price would be a good result. That's 10% off list, in the new year you could push a bit harder as it is clearly old stock they will need to reduce eventually anyway.
