    Short roof antenna?

Has anyone replaced the antenna on the roof with one of the shark fin or stubby style antennas? If so, where did you get it?

    I’m considering one like this:

    Hi Ben,
I have a 2015 6R Polo GTi. I managed to bend my roof antenna when the garage door came down on the car. I thought a Shark Fin replacement would be cool. I purchased one on ebay. The idea was that you unscrew the stick part of the antenna and attach the antenna inside the shark fin to where you unscrew the stick part of your antenna. Then the shark fin goes over the base of your old antenna and is sealed with a double sided rubber seal attached to the base of the shark fin. I think this may be what you were looking at. However, the dimensions on ebay were wrong and the base of my antenna was too big to fit inside the shark fin, so check your dimensions. I then contacted VW to see if there was a VW shark fin I could use. I have seen plenty of VWs running around with shark fin antennas. VW customer service was very enthusiastic about the idea. However, their technical department advised there was no substitute. Apparently, some of those shark fins I saw on VWs are dummies and are only there for show. The antenna on those VWs are in the rear window glass. I even tried a local car radio installer who basically said it was not a good idea. My particular model has an antenna with two cables connected - one for AM/FM and the other for GSM (Mobile phone). The connectors are VW FAKRA connectors and are not easy to disconnect - I couldn't get my cables disconnected. In the process, I found out it wasn't the antenna bent but the roof and the clamp holding the antenna to the roof. I hammered the roof and clamp and got everything fitting nicely again and still working also. I would be curious to hear if you have any success fitting a shark fin and how you did it. I still think a shark fin on the roof of my Polo GTi would look great.
