Is $700 normal for a second service?
My sister in law just payed nearly $700 for the second service for her 1.4tsi polo.

Does anyone actually ring around and get quotes on servicing before getting it done???

It's funny reading these threads about servicing and the reactions people have after it gets done, and how they tend to feel ripped off about it all. It's easy to ring up a half dozen places and get quotes.

At the end of the day, if you haven't done the research, you probably deserve to get ripped off.

It must be 1 year service i think. Most of the charge was labour.
Shouldnt VW have a fixed price for every service or do dealers just charge what ever they want?
I know audi are rip offs but thought VW were reasonable.

<$400 is the usual VW price for a normal service. You got ripped off.

Funny you say that Audi dealerships are rip offs. I got a quote for $420 to get my 1year/15,000km service done at VW. Then i rang Audi and they said it would be around $300. So i booked in with Audi for the service, and was charged $265.

30,000kms is a semi major service with full brake inspection, new pads and machining of discs (if required), bleed and refill of brake fluid, replacement of pollen and air filter.... I can't think of anything else at the minute.

~$700 sounds expensive yes, but was actually done to make it that much? What would other dealerships have charged? Was it the best deal she could find or just the easiest option? Without these answers, we can't tell you if it's steep or not.

I have referred several people to a specific dealership for dealership services in the eastern suburbs, some people have had to travel from literally the other side of Melbourne. Why? Not because they're the cheapest, but they're the most honest and offer the best service. Cars aren't as simple as $5 for a pack of spark plugs, $8 for an oil filter and $20 for a bottle of oil anymore. Find out if the car runs iridium spark plugs, then she will be in for a real shock, like many GTI Owners out there...

Yikes - new brake pads at 30,000km!!! So glad i swapped out the crummy stock pads for Remsa ones. If i cant get 50,000-60,000km out of these pads ill be ticked off.
