I understand Southern are an authorised VW dealer but my only issue is whether this will negatively affect resale value, and secondly, whether this could potentially open a can of worms in the event something goes wrong (if Solitaire start blaming Southern for an issue or vice versa). Although IIRC any warranty issue I can take it to either of them so not sure if this will really matter?

Thanks guys. First service so a bit antsier than usual!
You'll have no problem. Doesn't matter which dealer the service is done at as they will generally all do the same job – if one is cheaper than the other then I'd choose the cheaper one.
I don't see how it could affect resale value as the car is still being 'dealer serviced' and most people buying used cars don't look at the dealership, they just check if it's been dealer serviced or not.

My 81 TSI manual purchased new Nov 2015 is coming up for its first 15 000km service and I'm going to use Advanced Service Centre here in Toowoomba - they have a great reputation in the enthusiast VW, Audi, Subaru community here and have done excellent services from 30 000km on our 2013 Golf past the 90 000km service, never needing any warranty work and expect the Polo's services to cost the same. The basic oil/filter services seem to be around $280. It includes free drop off & pickup from home. Wippells, the local dealer, did the first service on the Golf for $290 when the fixed price was $292 yet I noticed that fixed price has now changed to over $400 like the Polo's. Obviously the original fixed price scheme first published by VW did not provide enough profit.

The 15000km service for the Polo 81 TSI manual was done by the independent I have used for the golf - Advanced service centre in Toowoomba for $240. It included the wheel alignment check they always do at every service. Heaps less than the quoted $423 VW fixed price service. The car has been perfect like our Golf has been (now with 95,000km) - 2 best cars I've ever owned over 45 years.

Pricing seems odd. 15k at 12 mths =10k. Mechanic charge $200. $5 each for a couple of washers. $25 for some fuel additive (presume injector cleaner?) few other bits and pieces + gst. Total $299. Oil and filter price absorbed.

Didn't offer to rotate/balance tyres, which dealers usually do.

Happy enough with the price. Usually would get slugged $100 for oil. Wondering if they make money on fixed pricing with things not needed until the real km get there???
