Oh dear I had that happen to a Peugeot 306 GTI in the 1999 Sydney Hail Storm. It was repaired and the finish was better than new.
It could be a write off. Check you insurance policy. Is it market value, market value? New for old policy?
Today was a very sad day for me and family, went to a family christmas day lunch in Sydenham, and not too long after the biggest hail storm i have ever seen smashed through the area!!
Hailstones the size of tennis balls !! and unfortunately this is the result
Cant get through to the insurance company yet, anyone know whether this will be written off, i think more than likely.

as they say, look at the bright side..
Looks like you're getting a brand new car!!!
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
Doubt it will be written off. Quite sure it can be restored to as new.
As they say, it will buff right out.

seriously?
if the sills and gutter-rails have hail damage, it will be a write off.
there is only so much a paintless dent guy can do, and that's one spot they cannot get to (closed in box sections)
that means repair work to structural areas, and running the gun for the side of the car.
Depends on what you want also.
If it were my car all glass would have to be popped out and refitted after painting, etc etc.. cost adds up

Sorry to see this, can't imagine how you feel especially after the long wait period.
The insurance companies make those kind of decisions unfortunately.
There is a Golf R owner on another forum who had his 3 door stolen. He had new for old in his policy. Insurance company told him that because no 3 doors were imported he didn't get new for old so they are only going to pay market value!
If Gambit's car is written off and they can't get an exact replacement in a reasonable timeframe what will happen?

Oh man.. That's terrible to hear! My friend got caught in one last year. Looked worse than Gambit's one. Contacted her insurance company and they called her in for assessment on the following week. They told her it would be a write off and took her car there and then. They paid her back as per policy, agreed value. That was with AAMI.
Different insurer, different policy I guess?
Hope it works out well!

Best outcome for me would be for them to write it off and pay out the agreed value as per the policy. It all rather sucks and its just all a hassle !
I'm with AAMI too btw.

AAMI and IAG (NRMA) under a new policy after severe storms in 2005 (Sydney hail storm) applies all states with more then 60% body damage of hail would be deemed a write off, as most states have abolished the repairable write off due to shonky half cuts, poor repairs etc.
Hope they treat you well mate Goodluck.
