Yeah mate cos you have the 77tsi your very limited for options. There are many things you have to take into account here.

    1. The MFD - on the polo 77tsi is a very basic model which cannot display details other than what is designed into the LCD (very much like a clock radio). This means getting phone info and track title etc is impossible. This can only be done on GTI which has the MFD+ which had a active dot matrix screen that can display anything (like a TV). If your desperate you can put a GTI instrument cluster at high cost.

    2. Bluetooth module - again the 77tsi gets the pov pack. There are 2 types of Bluetooth, the 9w7 (somthing like that) which is placed under the passenger seat and the Bluetooth touch adapter. The bulerooth adapter has very basic function and is really an add-on. The 9w7 on the other had is the real deal and has full functionality but has to be used with somthing with a advanced screen - so a RCD510> or the MFD+, where as the touch adapter can be used stand alone. I'm not sure if the touch adapter can display its info on a rcd510 if it's fitted as I don't have a touch adapter (YES!!!)

So your only real option is to get a RCD510 and a 9w7 Bluetooth module to get the best functionality for the least cost.

    Yep.

I removed the standard RCD310 from my wife's Polo (which has the factory 9w7 bluetooth module and touch adaptor) and installed an RCD510, once done audio streaming came alive, on our iPhones the 9w7 appears as VW PHONE and we simply pair with that ignoring the touch adaptor.

As stated above we've just installed the sat/nav version (RNS510) so we have an RCD510 for sale if anyone is interested, $260 shipped

I fitted the GPS antenna above the centre vents (right beneath the dash) as per a guide on this forum, all went smoothly and everything works fine. Steaming quality of music is great but I still need to learn how to VCDS out the Touch Adaptor to stop it interfering with the RNS and 9W7.

The steering wheels volume and phone controls work fine too.

So its meant to in the centre vents underneath the dash......

A certain car stealership in Western Sydney told me that it couldn't be fitted there to some metal beam running horizontally underneat the dash. So i'm stuck with the GPS attenna wedged ontop of the dash in the passenger side front corner of the windscreen....

What i'm wondering is if its meant to go here and the stealership was actually telling the truth or if its meant to be in the centre vents? Because finding tdi polos with RNS510 fitted is quite rare at times

nomadx38: Thanks. It kinda makes sense now. I was hoping that I could simply remove the crappy touch adaptor and use the native VW bluetooth function, but if I have understood your synopsis - this ain't gona work withour installing additional equipment (alas)!
