Mark, think about it this way. There are 3 modules plugged into the car separately:
1. Bluetooth 9w7
2. Head unit RCD310
3. Touch adapter Bluetooth interface

If you replace just the RCD310 with a RNS510, you will still have the terrible Touch adapter interface demanding you connect your phone to it and looking like a blight on the dashboard. So best to code it out and the 9w7 will then be free to default to the RNS510. You will then have a quality audio streaming and will able to drive off happily into the sunset.

what The_Hawk said... take away the touch screen and the bluetooth will still work. when i had the screen still in, the bluetooth option to pair with was labled "touch adapter", now its just "vw phone"... has music streaming and phone capabilities...

That's why I have the GPS sitting just in front of the gearstick & the phone in a custom bracket below eye-line.

Hey Guys i havent had a VW for 17 months sinse i sold my last GTI. Well today i ordered a 77tsi for a run around.

Ive been reading for a while to find out if i can fit a RNS510 to it.. Ive found a few guides saying it works on a GTI so i assume itll work on a 77TSI.. But what happens with the Bluetooth module fitted to the dash ?? does it work or do have to remove it and change to a different module??

I have a Megane RS250 but this has replaced my Punto Diesel Sport.. I didnt order any options so stock manual white was 17800 driveaway before my trade in of 4k on the punto. Pick it up tomorrow so cant wait..

I found a Rns510 today in a written off golf gti for $650 so i grabbed that and ordered a GPS antenna..

Ordered some 17" black Speedy Carbine wheels to be fitted tomorrow .. Have the windows being tinted sunday first thing.. Roof being black vinyled monday and now just looking for a set of H&r springs and im done..

Yesterday I fitted an RNS into my wifes 77TSI, it originally had an RCD310. The Polo also came with the "PITA" Touch Adaptor but thankfully a 9W7 factory Bluetooth module.

I fitted the GPS antenna above the centre vents (right beneath the dash) as per a guide on this forum, all went smoothly and everything works fine. Steaming quality of music is great but I still need to learn how to VCDS out the Touch Adaptor to stop it interfering with the RNS and 9W7.

The steering wheels volume and phone controls work fine too.

On a related, but different topic, my 77TSI doesn't have the SATNAV unit (i.e. just the radio - is this the RCD310?) and the standard (silly) touch adaptor. It also seems to have a very limited MFD that only shows a bunch of information related to driving data (i.e speed, average fuel usage etc.). Importantly I can't seem to get the MDF to show anything about the phone - this all seems to be done through the touch adaptor. If I remove the screen in the touch adaptor, is there any way of getting my phone to speak directly to the native VW bluetooth function?

Yes the stock radio is the RCD310. Your MFD is a basic fixed LCD (not a dot matrix display) so it only shows what it shows. Nothing else.

Right now the only way to control bluetooth is through that adaptor. If you get an RCD510 or RNS510 you can delete the adaptor and use the LCD on the new radio to manage the control. You can then also replace the little ****ly bluetooth adaptor with a phone dock which would be far more useful.
