Interesting, particularly about the whitewash at night. That's kind of disappointing, especially given that the unit is angled away from the light.

I wonder if its a problem with this type of licence camera, or if it's just this type of sensor.
Would a VW genuine camera suffer the same issue I wonder.

    yea
its like someone shining a torch in your eye and u wakeup only to see a white light
    hahaha

im lucky that i clipped the correct license plate light cus i was thinking it was the other wire but stuff u hunches
    my gut was right

one thing good with my camera is that its not noticeable and with the way the polos bumper is with the license plate and the overhanging bumper it hides the camera pretty good

Which is why I'm surprised, since way the camera is set, it should be more like someone shining a light behind your head - at the ground.

It's possible the surround for the housing is leaking in light, which affects the sensor. Which my be easier to fix than finding a relay to cut your light on reversing.
It could also be the LED or globe is too bright.
It's also possible that a slight raised bit of plastic (light a light shield) could deflect some of the light away from the front of the lens and help the issue.

thats what i thought too with light being leaked in the housing as my main theory as when i covered up the light with my hand it did nothing for the camera and still whiteout

    its all running perfect now

maybe its just the way ccd cameras work as they are more sensitive to light thus whiteout when the license plate light is right next to it

    works pretty good

one issue ive had when installing it last week tuesday was at night time with the license plate light on where the camera is, it just whitewashed the camera so i googled the issue and its pretty common with those type of license plate light/camera combos and the fix is to wire up a 12v relay switch which turns off the license plate light when reverse is engaged

also for those that might not know what a reverse signal wire is for, it connects to the reverse light and when reverse is engaged with 12v it gives the display device like a HU or reverse mirror to activate the reverse mode

I think I can see your problem there. There are two things, firstly you need to flip the image as what you see in the screen is opposite to what is behind you.

Eg in the screen the plastic can is on the opposite side to the photo taken behind the car.

Second one is because it is like that the reverse light ( not the numberplate light) is what you can see on the driveway and is fairly normal. It is on the left side of the car.

I had one of these and the rear vision mirror screen was useless in bright daylight. after all it is a mirror and the image wasnt bright enough to overcome the mirror image.

Yes I know what the reverse signal wire is for and have actually wired one up with a dual power supply so that the rear camera is always on (Switchable). Good when towing to check on couplings or tailgaters.

Also I always used covered spade connectors for safety reasons. You can buy a fuse with a tail on it at Jaycar as stuffing a wire beside a fuse is a recipe for a problem They come in 10 amp and put a 1 amp line fuse in as well.

Just some friendly advice from one who has done a fair bit of this.

actually when im looking at the screen as im reversing, whats on the left of the car like the blue can is whats on the left and whats on the right of the screen like the back right wheel of the lawnmower is on the right of the car

    yea
i was thinking of using spade connections but i just went on a soldering frenzy so thats why i taped over the relay switch so its got no chance to move anywhere or touch anything

im thinking of something like this for the fuse as a perm install but obviously the standard/regular fuse size and not the mini fuse the below image shows
    thoughts??

Yes that would be better but Jaycar sell both standard and mini fuses like that that slot straight in to a POLO as I have used them for my wifes Dashcam Part no SF5120 (mini) You may have trouble fitting that one in with all the fuses close together

Wire Tap Mini Blade Fuse 10A - Jaycar Electronics

SF5110 (standard) Wire Tap Blade Fuse 10A - Jaycar Electronics

and just buy a sz2015 for a line fuse about 750ma. 3AG In-Line Fuse Holder - Jaycar Electronics

Cover your reversing light and see if that helps as it appears that is what the washed out bit is caused by.
Looks normal for that to happen Also if brake lights come on can wash it out in a red color.
You are right about the image Just the way with the two pics side by side makes it appear the wrong way.
My old eyes getting confused with the different angle of the shots

    think u misunderstood me tho
when i installed the camera and screen last week (b4 the fix with relay switch), at night time with car power on but engine not started i tested without headlights on which would still have license plate lights off BUT left reverse light with or without foot break lights on and the night time picture is just fine.

then i turned on the headlights where the license plate lights turned on and then it whitewashed.

when i say whitewash its like the whole screens been painted white or i have a ghost behind my car playing with me.

thus google search and its a common issue with those types of license plate light/camera combos.

im not sure if it will also happen with cmos versions as they need more light than the sony ccd type that i have.
